Saugus - The Saugus Senior
Center was in full bloom last Saturday with plants, flower
arrangements and wreaths on display at the Saugus Garden
Club's annual Flower Show.
Judged by members of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts,
Inc. earlier in the day, the show was open Saturday afternoon
for the viewing pleasure of the public.
Ruth Berg, who wore a fashionable hat to the event, was
among the dozens of club members who enjoyed spending the
day with others who love gardening and growing plants inside
their home.
A member of the club for the last 15 years, Berg described
the Saugus Garden Club as “the nicest ladies and organization
in town.”
The theme of this year’s show was Beatrix Potter’s
Peter Rabbit. From Mrs. Rabbit’s Pantry, using a fruit
or vegetable container, to Mrs. Tigglywinkle’s Miniature
Arrangement, a display on a 6-inch base, each work in the
categories was a piece of art in itself.
For each category in the show, a blue, red and yellow ribbon
were awarded for the first, second and third place finishers
along with white ribbons for honorable mentions.
“The competition was stiff this year,” commented
Nancy Sayles, a member of the Flower Show committee. “The
new members of the club have shown us up,” she said
with a smile.
For the past 62 years, the Saugus Garden Club has offered
gardening and community service to the town of Saugus. |
