The florist shop at Greenskeeper
Florist in Pawley's Island is filled with bouquets for
the funeral of Julie Blakeley.
Denise Leonard with Greenskeeper
Florist says, "She liked hydrangea. Not to to long ago
we did a baby shower for her soon to be granddaughter.
She was pretty excited that she knew what sex it was going
to be. That it was going to be a little girl. She wanted
it to be really special so we die hydrangea and roses.
She also liked lilies. That's what we're gonna be using
for her casket spray."
They're continually receiving call for
flower orders not only for the funeral, but for her children. "We've
got people calling from all over the country. She had a
lot of friends. A lot of people knew her. She'd been in
the community for a long long time,” said Leonard.
It's hard for Leonard to believe someone
they saw frequently, is now gone. "It's just mind boggling
that something like that could happen. That somebody would
take a humane life and then try to cover it up with a fire.
It's just kind of in-humane,” said Leonard.
As people cope with the shock of Blakeley's
death, they honor her life through gifts of flowers. "Flowers
are very very healing. They make you feel real good,” said
Leonard.
Leonard says the one thing she'll remember
most about Blakeley is the love for her children.
Besides giving gifts of flowers, the family
has also asked people to make a donation to a scholarship
fund in honor of Blakeley's daughter who was killed several
years ago.
If you would like to contribute, you can
mail your donations to "the Kent Thornton Scholarship Fund". 2810
