Themed Hoa Da Lat - Toi Yeu Ban (Flowers of Da Lat – I Love You), the show featured songs in praise of Da Lat by famous local singers and a magnificent three-act play performed by hundreds of dancers representing mountains, trees, animals, and, of course, various kinds of flowers.
As Thanh Nien Daily reported earlier, the show also honored six out-standing local flower-growing villages and 12 artisans.
Van Thanh and An Son villages are famous for growing roses, Ha Dong and Thai Phien for chrysanthemums, Xuan Tho for gladioli, and Da Thien for nearly every kind of flower in Da Lat.
The main sponsor of the opening ceremony, Thai Thinh Pottery Corp., gave away certificates to the village representatives and 12 artisans, while floats, decorated with the prized flower of each village, paraded around the stage in a jaw-dropping tableau.
Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said the festival had become a significant event and was a great chance to promote the Da Lat and Vietnamese flower industries.
It also offered the chance to seek tourism and other commercial opportunities.
The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh, Lam Dong Province's Party leader Huynh Phong Tranh, and other high-ranking officials.
There were representatives from 21 foreign countries including the Netherlands, the original flower power.
The remaining 48 contestants of the Miss Vietnam Peoples beauty contest based on ethnicities were introduced to the audience.
