Following the success of Dalat
Hasfarm in importing fresh flowers, domestic and overseas
enterprises signed contracts with the government to hire
a land for planting flowers.
Dalat Flower Forest Biotechnology Corporation, established
in 2003, has sold flowers into Japan since 2004. The company
provided European-standard planting techniques for 20 farmers
who hope to strike it rich.
The company sent its men to some European countries like
the Netherlands and Belgium to learn how to graft flower
tissues.
Moreover, it bought equipment and flower tissues and a 2,000
meter-squared lab to multiply some kinds of flowers like
lily, chrysanthemum, Lys and others. A one-hectare greenhouse
can supply 400,000 saplings a month.
In 2007, more than 3 million of cymbidium orchid saplings
and over one million were sold to Belgium and Holland respectively.
The company plans to produce six million high quality young
trees. Accordingly, it’s thanks to investment in equipments
and techniques that the enterprise has supplied over 100
flowers, offering 100 employment and getting a turnover
of nearly US$2 million.
The company at present supply flower seeds to Japanese farmers
who previously bought from France, Poland and India but
they now prefer Vietnamese because of low price and high
quality.
The company’s director Nguyen Dinh Son said that his
enterprise has rejected some contracts for fear that it
doesn’t have enough to supply.
According to some foreign experts, a bright future for Da
Lat flower seed is seen as the weather is suitable for all
year round.
As forecast, the sector will bring the highland province
of Lam Dong an annual turnover of US$5-6 million.
Dalat Flower Forest Biotechnology Corporation increase its
capital from VND1 billion to VND7 billion, turning Vietnamese
scientists’ dream come true – to export flowers
and their seeds to European countries.
