Throughout the nation, a
day is set aside to honor our national flower, the rose.
Rose Day U.C.D is scheduled for April 25. In other areas
it is listed as Rose Day America, but the Mother Lode Rose
Society is proud to honor the rose here in Amador County
as Rose Day Amador on April 19 and 20 at the Amador Flower
Farm.
The flower farm is having a debut of Jackson and Perkins
newest varieties of roses in conjunction with the rose clinic,
which is coordinated by Kathy Pifari, Mother Lode Rose Society
consulting rosarian coordinator.
Consulting rosarians are rose growers who have attended
lectures and classes, and have passed an extensive examination
by the American Rose Society. These classes cover all aspects
of rose culture: pruning, soils and fertilizers, water analysis,
pest and disease management, organic and chemical. Consulting
rosarians will be conducting the clinic from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. Feel free to ask these experts any questions you
may have regarding landscaping with roses, container planting,
how to raise miniatures, climbers, shrubs, old garden roses
and hybrid teas. They will have information on companion
planting to attract beneficial insects and natural predators.
There were prizes given away as compliments of the Amador
Flower Farm.
The Mother Lode Rose Society meets at the Amador Senior
Center in Jackson on the first Tuesday of every month at
1:30 p.m., except June, July and August. We offer excellent
programs on rose culture, the art of making arrangements,
corsages, how and when to plant bare root roses and much
more. It is a social group who annually presents a pruning
demonstration to the public. The society actively maintains
the public rose garden at the center.
We as consulting rosarians welcome any invitation to speak
to groups, garden clubs or any organization that is interested
in learning any aspect about the culture of the rose, the
flower of love!
Please join us at our Annual Rose Show on June 7 and 8 at
the senior center where you will see what we do, visually
see the cut roses in the horticultural section and how roses
are put together in beautiful arrangements. It is a perfect
time to see in live form which roses you would like to see
in your garden. Hostesses will be available to answer any
questions.
Admission is free.
