DENVER (CBS4) ? Denver Mayor
John Hickenlooper is determined to make sure Denver is nice
and green for the Democratic National Convention.
Wednesday morning, the mayor joined a group of volunteers
to plant nearly 200 trees along Auraria Parkway and Speer
Boulevard. The trees that were planted are low-water trees
and should also help reduce urban heat. The city is also
hoping residents will help out with the planting efforts.
This year marks Denver's 150th anniversary and it has a
new flower, the Denver daisy, to celebrate the landmark.
The city is giving out 300,000 packets of the seeds. They're
being distributed through elementary school students and
the May issue of 5280 magazine.
Hickenlooper said if everyone plants the seeds now, they'll
be in full bloom for the Democratic National Convention |
