In these chilly days of February, the
closest we get to gardening is browsing through seed catalogs.
But today through Sunday, you can walk through the work
of professional landscapers at the Connecticut Flower &
Garden Show at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
Twenty-five gardens will be laid out in the 45,000-square-foot
exhibition space. The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut
is using the theme "Once Upon a Time" for its
inspirations.
Rosemary Harris, a master gardener from Connecticut who
is also a mystery writer, speaks Sunday at 3:30 p.m. She
is the author of "Pushing Up Daisies: A Dirt-Y Business
Mystery" (St. Martin's Press, $23.95), which features
Paula Holliday, a Connecticut landscaper who finds a mummified
baby in a box as she works on a garden at an estate and
then becomes the sleuth who figures out the mystery. "A
charming debut," said Library Journal.
Author Melinda Myers from PBS's "Great Lakes Gardener"
show and author and designer Penelope O'Sullivan are two
of the speakers featured in the 80 hours of seminars being
offered.
The show runs today, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to
8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6. Admission is $14, $12
for seniors (Thursday and Friday), $2 for children 7 to
14; free for children 6 and younger. Admission is by cash
only.
