According to the park Web site, the desert
received about 3 inches of rain since the beginning of the
year, bringing the season total to about 4.2 inches. That's
less than a normal year, but it has come at the right time
for wildflowers, according to the Web site.NBC 7/39 viewer
Jim Zuehl visited the Coyote Canyon area of the park on
Presidents Day.
"There are flowers scattered throughout Borrego right
now, but depending on weather, in about a week or two it's
going to be quite a show," Zuehl said in an e-mail.
He sent some wildflower photos to back up his assertion.
Some of the wildflowers already blooming include sand verbena,
phacelia, popcorn flowers and filaree according to park
rangers. Park botanists estimate the peak of the bloom will
be the first two weeks of March.
