Yesterday was a breezy beginning
to the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.
We'll have complete coverage later in Calendar, but here's
a quick review of what made an impression on me. (NOTE:
There's a short video in the viewer on this page. Click!)
This year's theme is "Fun in the Sun." The opening
topiary features a way-larger-than life Goofy on a surfboard.
Mickey and Minnie are nearby. Farther into the park are
a volleyballing Donald and Daisy. Of course, there are many,
many Disney character topiaries and photo ops abound.
Other stuff I liked: Per ranger Mary Frances' recommendation,
the Fragrance Garden in France -- I also thought the blooms
were most brilliant over there; the Peter Pan's Never Land
Garden, complete with croc (see video); and the Chinese
Bonsai zoological signs over in China (that's the Rat in
the video).
A note about the rat: He can be hard to spot because he's
separated from the other 11. I had to ask the nice cast
member from China where it was. "I had trouble finding
it too," she said, "and I was born in the year
of the rat!" She steered me back around the corner,
in front of the restaurant, where rat is displayed prominently.|
A rat in front of a restaurant? How very Ratatouille and
house of the mouse. |
