A BID of 2,700gns
topped a sale of pedigree beef shorthorn cattle at Chelford
which included major herd reductions and drafts of heifers.
Leading the day’s trade was Wavendon Flossy Flower
a 2003-born daughter of Chapelton Neptune and going back
to the Burke Trophy winner Flossy Freta. Part of a major
reduction from Christopher Marler, Olney, Buckinghamshire,
she sold with her bull calf – Wavendon Roan Rattler.
The buyer was M.H. Reynolds, Barry Island.
The majority of cows with calves at foot sold between 1,500
and 1,600gns and other leading bids included 1,780gns for
a white cow – Wavendon Secret Snowflake and her heifer
calf snapped up by M.D. Shields, Thirsk.
In-calf cows were a strong trade throughout with several
making over 1,100gns with a top call of 1,550gns for Wavendon
Secret Swift out of Secret Shoot. She was seven-months in-calf
to Red Rattler and makes her way to Gloucestershire with
new owner M.D. McMillan.
An entry of served heifers from E. Hugill’s Ballard
herd, Great Broughton, Middlesborough, topped at 1,650gns
for a Wildeyes heifer in-calf to the 6,000gns Cairnsmore
Extreme Force. She joins Keith Mitchell’s Llanarth
herd, Ceredigion.
Leading the maiden heifers was a 16-month-old daughter of
Uppermill Lasoo from David Rutherford’s Aylward herd,
Odiham, Hampshire. She was knocked down at 1,200gns to M.D.
Shields.
Leading the bulls at 2,000gns was Meohill Aslan from Sid
and Mary Chaplin of LEP Farms Ltd, Hambledon, Hampshire.
A full brother to the junior Royal show champion and by
Chapelton Winsome, he was bought by Robert Leach, Banbury.
