CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa (April
4, 2008) -- Members of Ikebana International's Okinawa Chapter
10 displayed their artworks at the chapter's 50th Anniversary
Celebration and 51st Flower Exhibition in Naha March 22-24.
Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. Lt. Gen.
Richard Zilmer, III Marine Expeditionary Force commanding
general, and Consul General Kevin Maher, the American consulate
general in Okinawa attended the event's opening ceremony
March 22. The chapter uses the money it earns from the annual
exhibition to contribute to various charities around the
world. The chapter was started by Keiko Robbins in 1957,
according to Elizabeth Biddle, the chapter's first vice
president. Robbins made it the chapter's mission to promote
Ikebana to the military community as well as the people
of Okinawa. |
