BEAUTIFUL floral
displays and live music have helped raise more than £1,000
for a Worcestershire church during the first day of a three-day
flower festival.
The money was collected on Saturday during the Eckington
flower festival and open gardens which saw the Holy Trinity
church in Eckington full of colourful blooms.
This year the theme was music makers and displays included
those entitled Phantom of the Opera, the Sound of Music,
Edward Elgar and Oklahoma.
Retired florist Joan Green, who helped arrange the flowers,
said: "We started it off to raise money for the church.
I think this is the 14th or 15th year we've done it.
"Some people are coming from longer distances to see
it which is just fabulous."
One visitor, Sheila Grew, from south Staffordshire, said:"
I think they are excellent. Mary Poppins is my favourite.
Over the weekend, scarecrows could be seen in the village
while live music included groups Morning Dew and The Smoothies
and church members sang and played instruments.
On Sunday, village youngsters danced around a maypole and
Eckington hand bell ringers performed in the village hall.
Visitors heading to the village today can enjoy more live
music in the church, a beer festival in the Anchor pub and
a classic car exhibition in the Orchard
