Krishi Mandi Parishad to establish flower auction centre-cum-wholesale
market complex at Noida, the growers of the state would
be able to sell their produce directly in open market.
This would also reduce the interference of the middlemen
in various markets. This was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor
of Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry,
Dr K.R. Dhiman, while presiding over a meeting of growers
of Himachal and Uttar Pradesh, held on varsity campus today.He
said the auction centre would be functional in September
Stressing the need of diversification, he said since the
climate of the state is very congenial for the flower production,
the farmers should come forward for technical help from
the Parmar varsity.
He said Indian farmers are generating an income of over
Rs 600 crore annually from flower production currently.
In Himachal, flowers are grown over 500 hectare of land.
Director ofthe Uttar Pradesh Krishi Mandi Parishad, Rajesh
Kumar, said after opening of the centre, the farmers would
be able to sell their produce directly at the centre instead
of middlemen. Shops would be alloted to cooperative societies
of farmers to facilitate them.On the occasion, the farmers
discussed various problems concerning flowercultivation,
marketing and shelf life with the scientists of the university.
