Drivers in
Flower Mound will soon be required to go hands free with
their cell phones while driving in school zones.
The city council recently approved the ordinance, which
goes into effect on Tuesday.
Officials said that for the first 10 days violators will
be issued warnings, unless someone is a repeat violator.
After that point, violators could be subjected to a $200
fine.
To help make motorists aware of the new ordinance, the town
is installing signs near school zones.
Officials said that citizens can also report violations
to the police department and that letters would be sent
to registered owners of the vehicle as a warning of the
offense.
To report a violation, citizens would need to record the
following information: License plate number and state.
Location and time
Vehicle make and model (if known)
Officials with Flower Mound said the ordinance is aimed
to help promote safety for school children, parents and
staff in school zones. |
