Defending state champion
Flower Mound Marcus handed Katy Cinco Ranch its only loss
of the season Thursday, returning to the Class 5A championship
game with a 2-1 victory in the boys semifinals.
With the score tied at 1-1 midway through the second half,
Chad Caldwell headed in a corner kick from Eric Frazier
for the go-ahead goal.
Randy Wright scored first for Marcus (25-3-3), which also
had a couple near-misses on two shots from Sam Garza that
caromed off the crossbar.
The Cougars (22-1-6) scored first, with Ryan Silveria's
header giving Cinco Ranch a brief lead on a throw-in by
Josh Reicks. But Wright scored less than four minutes later
to tie.
