Flowers for vases
The Inn Flower Place in the lobby of the Coast Inn is promoting
a “green” idea. Recipients of floral arrangements
seem to stockpile the containers and vases which start to
collect dust over the years. Sharon Rees has a better idea
- she’d like to encourage people to recycle them.
Bring in a box of ceramic containers and glass vases and
receive a wrapped bouquet of cut flowers in exchange. She’ll
put them to good use filling current orders and thereby
put them back in circulation once again. Shop number is
561-0366.
Little Treasures
Kathy and Bill Orlinis spent years as enthusiastic collectors
and amassed enough to open a small store last November.
Little Treasures is located next to Marty’s CafÈ
at the Shell station just past Sintich trailer park on Highway
97 South. There is a lot of stock crammed into a small space.
It’s an interesting mixture of antiques and unique
crafted small furniture. Currently in stock are collectibles
of all kinds including carnival glass, bottles, tea cups,
salt and pepper shakers, floor lamps, framed prints, milk
glass, oil lamps, ornaments and toys.
Of special interest is a carved chair which has been appraised
and dates from about 1870. Altogether, more than 1,000 items
are displayed with new ones brought in as space permits.
Customers have been finding Little Treasures a pleasant
experience and the owners are flexible about hours if customers
want to continue browsing. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and Saturday. Fridays are 10
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Telephone: 963-7495. If you are on a quest
for something special - call and ask them to be on the lookout.
Addicted to Retro
The place to look for unique finds downtown is “Addicted
to Retro” across from the Ramada on Fourth Avenue.
Annette Savage displays her merchandise floor-to-ceiling
in a very crowded shop. It’s a bit of a jumble and
therefore the kind of place which takes time to explore.
The stock frequently changes and is a mix of clothing, accessories,
and decorations from the middle decades of the 20th century.
Some happy brides and graduates have found their gowns here.
Tweens and teens regularly check the stock for fashion jewelry
(especially exotic and different earrings), belts, scarves,
shawls, hats and bags to create truly unique outfits. New
additions are 1980s-era big-framed sunglasses in lots of
patterns, greeting cards, patterned pantyhose and seamed
stockings. The 1960s bathing suits and sun dresses evoke
memories of long-ago happy summers. Shop opens 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. daily; closed Sundays and Mondays. Call 961-1954.
