The Manukau City Council
is confident it will have a new flower show by the end of
this year, after the Ellerslie International Flower Show
moved to Christchurch.
Although Auckland Flower Show Ltd has already announced
a show at Alexandra Park from November 20-23, the Manukau
council has been requesting proposals to develop and manage
the event, which will be held in conjunction with the Auckland
Regional Council.
Manukau Mayor Len Brown says there is overwhelming public
support to create a new garden show at the Botanic Gardens
in Manurewa and the council has had a number of very good
proposals so far with nationally significant individuals
and organisations putting forward ideas.
He says the council will spend the next two weeks considering
the proposals before a decision is made. The event will
probably be held this spring.
The first Ellerslie Flower show in Christchurch will be
held in March 2009. |
