A SPOT of wet weather did
nothing to dampen the spirits of showgoers at the Harrogate
Spring Flower Show this weekend.
Tens of thousands of visitors from across the country flocked
to the four-day event at Great Yorkshire Showground to see
the best exhibitors had to offer with their flowering displays.
Temperamental weather did nothing to deter the determined
showgoers from having a good time at one of the districts'
favourite events.
Carol and Leslie Miles came all the way from Ramsbottom
for Friday's show day. They have come every year for six
years, and said that despite the wet weather this year's
event was the best yet: "It's great. Every year we
come and every year it's improved- but this is the worst
we have had yet with the weather."
Pauline Lynn and Judith Reed, from Kippax in Leeds, also
are regulars to the Spring Flower Show. Ms Lynn said: "
We were hoping to buy lots of plants, but the weather's
been awful. We always have a great time here, it's just
so nice."
There was plenty to see and do, from flower arranging demonstrations
to garden design, miniature Bonsai trees to blooming daffodils,
displays, concerts and more.
Brass, concert, and dixie bands entertained the crowds who
braved the occasional shower and spot of hail to browse
the many arts, crafts and produce stalls showcasing a variety
of local produce.
This year's show included more than 100 horticultural nurseries
and plant society marquees, as well as floristry and flower
arranging displays, the new Bradstone College garden design
area and the Bayer garden roadshow.
The Plant Societies' marquee showcased displays built by
college garden design students.
