Chorley Council‘s gardening
team has won silver in this year’s prestigious Southport
Flower Show.
The council’s Hope Street display took one of the
top honours in the Local Authority Summer Bedding display
category.
The win follows last year’s success in the same category
with the team once again working with Stones and Roses and
Rushton’s Nursery.
Coun Eric Bell, Chorley Council’s Executive member
for neighbourhoods, said: “This is another fantastic
award for the council and demonstrates the hard work of
our gardening team.
“We have had so many positive comments about Chorley’s
flowers and its brilliant that we’re able to show
the rest of the north west just how good they are.
"Our gardeners have done us proud and I’m sure
they will continue to do their best to make sure the Borough
is awash with colour.”
The Southport Flower Show ran from August 21 to August 24
and this year’s theme was Liverpool as European Capital
of Culture.
The council’s Hope Street display featured an assortment
of red geranium and orange begonia blossoms with blue lobelia
and salvia representing Chorley’s corporate colours
along with Liverpool’s two football clubs, Everton
and Liverpool.
The two renowned Liverpool cathedrals were placed within
the flowers to symbolise the hope that peace and culture
would alleviate the world’s problems - making the
world a better place.
