The 2008 Beautiful Open Gardens
Tour at Fullerton College's Horticulture Department took
place Sunday, when nine homes near the school were showcased
to local garden lovers. To begin this self-guided journey,
maps of the neighborhood were sold to participants at $10
each through the department.
These homes in Fullerton are registered as historical landmarks
and have been remodeled over the decades, retaining a beauty
that is anything but ordinary over
the years.
Throughout the tour it was evident that every homeowner
brought inspiration through experiences with different cultures,
yet were still open to creative ideas from outsiders.
Homeowner Suzanne Barone described her inspirations for
remodeling her home as "wanting to bring different
cultures together." Barone's home included a contribution
from a local artist and Fullerton native Nicole Byers, who
finger-painted a mural of romantic Italian poetry with passionate
images of man and woman.
The Hirigoyen Garden, owned by the Kelsey/Holmes family,
featured a wide variety of plants, flowers and beautifully
crafted, hand-carved rock benches within its garden.
The Gardens Tour can be seen again next year. |
