The organisers of Falmouth
Spring Flower Show have asked for financial help from the
town's council in a bid to keep the event alive.
In a letter to the council Oliver Carne, honorary show treasurer,
said that without the support of the council and the odd
"one off" grant from a benefactor then this year's
event would have made a loss.
In a grant application form, organisers have requested a
grant of £500 to help cover the cost of using the
Princess Pavilion as the event venue. The total amount needed
is £1,390 and funds raised from this year's show will
help cover the remainder.
In the application, organisers have written: "Without
help we would find it hard to run a show, with the cost
going up all the time. We feel the Spring Show is a long
standing event in Falmouth."
The two-day event is one of the most popular dates on Falmouth's
calendar and sees gardeners from across the area entering
an array of floral exhibits.
Organisers' request for help will be considered by the finance
committee of Falmouth town council when they next meet on
