The University of Illinois
football team will be taking part in the Rose Bowl on January
1, 2008. This event is adding a new dimension to the holiday
season for Illinois fans in the area, this office included.
Excitement abounds!!
According to Rose Bowl organizers, on Tuesday, January 1,
2008 at 8 a.m. (PST), millions of spectators from around
the world will celebrate the New Year with the 119th Rose
Parade themed "Passport to the World’s Celebrations."
It was patterned after a European festival of roses and
was meant to show off Pasadena's natural beauty and sunny
climate while most of the nation lay buried beneath snow.
The 5.5 mile Tournament of Roses parade will feature the
beautiful pageantry and tradition of magnificent floral
floats, high-stepping equestrians and spirited marching
bands. Floats must be completely covered with flowers, greenery,
or other natural material, with an average float requiring
up to 100,000 blossoms. It is estimated that more than 500,000
roses in vials are used in each parade. The average cost
of a finished float is between $75,000 and $250,000 depending
on the size and mechanics of the float. About 1 million
people come to Pasadena to watch the Tournament of Roses,
according to information from the City of Pasadena.net Pasadena
web site.
