CHANDIGARH: The annual Rose Festival here
has been drawing huge crowds as a variety of roses are put
on display for the three-day event.
The 36th edition of the festival, which began here yesterday,
is a reminiscent of the Basant festival, which signals the
start of spring season.
The festival is organised at Zakir Hussain Rose Garden here,
Asia's largest rose garden spread over 30 acres of land
having over 1600 different species of the flower.
These have been planted in beautifully carved out lawns
and flower beds and most exquisite varieties of roses are
on display in the garden, named after former Indian President,
Zakir Hussain and set up in 1967.
The festival, which was inaugurated by Punjab Governor General
(retd) S F Rodrigues, also include dance performances, beating
of drums, playing of bands, street plays, brass pipe band
competition, photo exhibition. The display of Vintage Classical
cars is the new addition in the festival this year
