Walt Pyle opened Monday's Calimesa City
Council meeting under Communications from the Public with
the suggestion that the rose become the official Calimesa
flower.
“We have an enormous array of color to work with,”
Pyle said. “And we can do a rose festival concept.
The Calimesa Chamber of Commerce is excited. We could have
a Rose Festival Queen.”
Mayor Pro Tem Jim Hyatt suggest a city flower be put on
the agenda and Councilman Bill Davis said, “It's a
good idea.”
Councilman Joyce McIntire suggested lilacs, in particular
the ceanopsis, or wild lilac that is currently in bloom.
Pyle suggested the chamber handle a survey and that three
members could form a committee.
Mayor John Chlebnik suggested the city open the idea to
all flowers.
“We welcome other floral foliage,” he said.
The council agreed that a city flower discussion will be
placed on a future council agenda. |
