Rye Flower and Vegetable Show
attracted a record number of entries on Saturday.
RYE Flower and Vegetable Show attracted a record number
of entries on Saturday.
The annual show is organised by Rye in Bloom and Rye Allotments
Association.
Organiser Lorna Hall said: "There was a fabulous display
of colourful flowers a great selection of cakes, jams and
jellies and dozens of super photographs and excellent handicrafts
on display. What a fantastic example of the best of Rye's
local produce.
"Ray Sedgewick a judge from the Kent Federation of
Horticultural Societies was very impressed with the entries
and confirmed that the standards are extremely high and
he would be happy to see a number of the entries on the
county show bench.
"Paul Webbe who kindly judged the cookery section was
also very complimentary about the level of the entries and
had a very hard time choosing between the plates of fruit
loaf, home made sweets and jams and chutneys.
"There were record entries for the children's classes
too this year with beautifully decorated paper plates and
very imaginative gardens in a tray.
"Many thanks go to Priscilla Ryan for kindly agreeing
to present the certificates and prizes and to David Sharp
Potteries for helping us with the ceramic awards.
"Our appreciation also goes to the WI for keeping everyone
refreshed and to Raine Goddard and Freddy Heritage for running
a spectacular Tombola.
"I am particularly grateful to all the members of the
Allotment Society who threw themselves wholeheartedly into
the event and helped out with stewarding and running a very
successful show and I know they are very enthusiastic about
the Rye Flower and Vegetable Show 2009."
