THINK Chelsea Flower Show
and most people will naturally picture green-fingered gardeners
pottering away to create a colourful floral exhibition.
But in amongst the spectacular gardens and flowers, guests
to the show will also have the opportunity to see one successful
Lowestoft-company's latest developments.
Although the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is generally known
for its displays, the five-day event features a total of
600 exhibitors, as top garden designers and businesses stand
side-by-side in a tribute to everything green.
Amongst the numerous trade stalls will be Lowestoft-based
firm Harrod Horticultural. The mail-order company, based
at Pinbush Road, on the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate,
has attended the show for the last five years, picking up
two commendations in that time.
This year their exhibit is based on the theme of inspiring
organic fruit and vegetable growing and is set to feature
fruit cages, gardening tools and organic products all exclusively
designed and made at their Lowestoft premises.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to see people face-to-face
and get feedback on the designs and products we sell,”
said Jonathan Couch, marketing manager for Harrod Horticultural.
Amongst their products on display is a brand new decorative
domed-shaped fruit cage, born out of the steel-manufacturing
sports side of the business, and wormery products, reflecting
their organic gardening ethos.
Last year the company received a commendation for their
stand and Mr Couch admitted that they have been working
hard to top that achievement.
“People appreciate the great lengths sundry stands
like ours go to,” he said. “We've had the same
spot three years running and many always remember us as
a nice stand and it makes us want to raise the bar.”
To help launch their stand, Harrod Horticultural has secured
an appearance from former pop star and professional gardener
Kim Wilde on the official press day. Kim is a regular columnist
on the company's website and will be at the stand for on
May 19.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is open from May 20 to 24 and
