Stradbroke Parish Church is getting ready
for its flower festival, with the theme Colour, Mission
and Priesthood.
The event marks the 40th anniversary of the ordination to
the priesthood of the rector, the Rev David Streeter, who
was ordained at Chelmsford Cathedral on Sunday, September
22, 1968.
The flower festival is on September 20, 21 and 22 and will
feature the seven colours of the rainbow and the seasons
of the church's life, Stradbroke's community and activities
and aspects of Mr Streeter's parish work, including the
primary school, youth work, abseiling and bungee jumping
and winning a County St George's Day Award in 2007 for a
tea party on top of the church tower.
Mr Streeter is managing and organising the festival with
plenty of advice from experienced flower arrangers and is
leading a team of 50 for the event.
He will also me making a large fruit cake and icing it with
rainbow colours.
There will be an exhibition of photographs and news cuttings
to illustrate his 40 years of ministry and a competition
to find the best 40 words beginning COMP, which includes
many of the most positive words for Christian and social
action, from compassion to computer.
Tea and coffee will be on sale during the festival on the
Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10am - 6pm.
On Sunday 21, at 6.30pm, the Benefice Choir will lead a
service of thanksgiving and re-dedication, and on Monday
22, at 7.30pm there will be a a service of holy communion,
with hymns and a sermon, with the music led by Eye Church
Choir.
