THREE Arngrove Northern League
clubs were eagerly awaiting today’s draw for the fourth
round of the FA Carlsberg Vase – although only two
are definitely through to the next stage.
While Whitley Bay and Dunston Federation celebrated on Saturday,
Consett sat out their third-round tie against Trafford at
Belle Vue Park.
Snow during the morning ruled out any possibility of the
game taking place and the rescheduled game will be held
at Consett next Saturday.
Whitley Bay played in dreadful conditions at Hillheads Park,
with a strong wind and heavy rain making it difficult for
the players. But the Seasiders raised their game to run
out 6-0 winners to Flixton.
Lee Kerr scored four of the goals and took the headlines
but Paul Chow also made a massive contribution, assisting
in five of his team’s six goals.
“It was a fabulous result and I reckon it is the best
we have played all season,” said Bay spokesman Peter
Fox.
Mark Taylor gave Whitley Bay an early lead and following
Kerr’s four-goal extravaganza Andy Dugdale completed
the scoring.
Dunston Federation beat Billingham Synthonia 3-1 on Teesside.
Despite conceding a third-minute goal to Colin Iley, the
Fed dominated to book their place in the fourth round with
goals by Kevin Devine (2) and Michael Jamieson (og).
Two ANL sides crashed out – Newcastle Benfield Bay
Plastics lost 5-2 to Kirkham and Wesham while Northallerton
Town lost 6-0 to Formby.
