THE rain may have been good
for the flowers, but it didn’t put off visitors to this
year’s Royal Horti-cultural Society Spring Flower Show
either.
Wales’ leading three-day horticultural show came to
an end at Cardiff’s Bute Park yesterday having been
a huge success, despite the wintry April weather.
Tim Powell, who helped co-ordinate the event for Cardiff City
Council, estimated that the weekend numbers saw almost as
many people attend as the 16,000 flower enthusiasts who turned
up last year – even if conditions couldn’t have
been any more different. “Last year we had
brilliant, bright sunshine and it was really warm, this time
we had bad rain and biting wind, but everybody seemed determined
to have a good time,” he said.
Among the highlights was the WRU daffodil, grown as a tribute
to Wales’ recent fragrant Grand Slam success and the
Dr Who garden, which featured an actual revolving ing Tardis.
Mr Powell added that the show would definitely making a return
next year. |
