Your guide to a flower-festooned girly feast

Playing flower shop is a sort of feminine fantasy: spending an afternoon surrounded by buckets of blooms and decorating to abandon. Just in time for warmer weather, we're throwing a party that makes all this joy come true.

At the Flower Studio in Phoenix, owner Christine Siegel welcomes women to her pretty shop for girls' night in. A big TV screen is on hand to play chick flicks while Siegel shows off her tricks for flower arranging. Everyone gets to create her own bouquet and bring it home, to boot.

Now, this lily needs no gilding, but we couldn't help ourselves and asked Jennifer's Catering to dream up a flower-festooned girly feast. Imagine tiny coconut cupcakes, the most posh crudites you've ever seen and spicy shrimp cocktail, each nestled in its own dish. Put on your best spring dress, call all your girls and follow our guide to a fancy floral fest.

Set up a juice bar featuring freshly pressed aguas frescas, $2.59 for a large size at Phoenix Ranch Market, 1602 E. Roosevelt St., 602-254-6676. They perfectly filled these glass jars, $2.99 each at Ikea, Interstate 10 and Warner Road, Tempe, 480-496-5658, www.ikea.com. We chose watermelon, papaya and pineapple juice for our bar, which you can juice up even more by offering vodka as a mixer.

The point of this party is to enjoy as many flowers as possible, so of course you need plates to match. We found these graphic garden-themed dishes at Pottery Barn, $5 for each salad plate and tumbler. The yellow napkin is $4 and the giant silk peony napkin ring is $6.50, also at Pottery Barn, Valley locations at www. potterybarn.com.

"People are always asking me what to do with the flowers they bring home," Flower Studio owner Christine Siegel says. "They never know how to arrange them." So Siegel decided to open up her shop for flower parties, teach the guests and let everyone take home the creations. She provides utensils, finger foods, soda and water, and guests can bring in their own drinks. (Services pictured from Jennifer's Catering are extra.)

Siegel welcomes bridal showers, baby showers and girls' nights alike. Prices for flower parties start at $85 per guest. There are less-expensive parties for little girls. Details: 810 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix, 602-279-3404, www.flower studioaz.com.
